NeuroFeedback Center

Welcome to Crossroads NeuroFeedback Center

For individuals with mental health or behavioral health challenges, there are currently two strategies widely available. One is psychotherapy and the other is medication. Both of these have proven effective for various groups of people with a wide variety of conditions. Neurofeedback is a third, viable, effective strategy to treat these conditions. Neurofeedback can also be used in tandem with therapy and/or psychiatric medication.

Neurofeedback is a fun, interactive, and engaging treatment that helps you strengthen and retrain your brain to a healthier, more focused state. It is a specialized treatment option that uses advanced computer technology for balancing and optimizing your brain. Neurofeedback is a biofeedback technique that focuses on helping a person train themselves to directly affect brain function. It may sound like science-fiction in nature, but it’s actually a reputable and scientifically-proven technique practiced by specially-trained psychotherapists. Neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, is a gradual therapeutic learning process that takes time and focus through operant conditioning.

Our NeuroFeedback Specialist

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Judith Branum enjoys facilitating the process of lasting change in families, couples and individuals who feel ‘stuck’ in cycles that lead to feelings of hopelessness, depression, anger, and sadness. She currently works with children, adolescents, and adults who want help finding a way through anxiety, depression, mood disorders, attachment issues, and trauma.

Making use of many approaches to therapy helps her tailor counseling to the needs of the client or the family unit. She believes that change is possible, and hope can be renewed. Counseling is part of this life process whatever stage you find yourself in.

What Does It Help?

Neurofeedback therapy is also a safe, non-invasive, alternative option for the treatment of many conditions that are causing difficulties for children and adults.  These include attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adults, anxiety, depression, PTSD, addictions and some obsessive compulsive traits. It is making use of a know and evidence based way to adapt our behaviors known as operant conditioning.  Operant conditioning allows us to adapt even our brain activity to help regulate many of the imbalances that occur with these conditions.

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Memory
  • Migraines
  • Stress
  • Sleep
  • ADHD
  • ASD

In November 2012, the American Academy of Pediatrics approved biofeedback and neurofeedback as a Level 1 or “best support” treatment option for children suffering from ADHD.

Our Process

Initial Assessment

At Crossroads, we go beyond a simple checklist of reported or observed behaviors. Using data gathered through cutting-edge brainwave mapping technology and other evaluation tools, Crossroads provides a fuller understanding of why your brain acts the way it does.

A full-cap qEEG is at the core of our assessment process and helps us understand what is happening in your brain. A cap is placed on your head that measures the frequencies of your brainwaves 19 sites of the brain, allowing us to capture your various neural networks. We analyze both speed and connectivity in the brain to determine how optimally your brain is functioning.

Looking at your brainwave activity can provide our clinical specialists valuable insights into what is contributing to your unwanted symptoms or challenges.

Personalized Treatment Program

Your unique brain map becomes our guide to designing a personalized program. Our neurofeedback providers will review your results from our initial testing and begin designing the customized treatment plan specific to your needs. If you need help with anything, you will have access to our clinicians every step of the way.

NeuroFeedback Training

With neurofeedback, your training is fun! You watch a movie. That’s it. For  each session, the EEG will monitor your brain functions while watching a movie. When your brain's frequencies deviate from therapeutic range, the screen will dim, indicating something is out of balance. Once you return to healthy brain patterns, the screen will brighten up, giving your brain a reward.

Improving Mental Health

You learn how to optimize your brainwave activity the same way you learn other skills—through feedback and practice. As you go through the program, your brain learns how to stay within an optimal range. To keep you on track, are specialists will periodically assess your results throughout the treatment program.

Successful neurofeedback training results from being able to lower certain brainwave frequencies while promoting other, healthier frequencies. This is achieved in neurofeedback by simple repetitive training while connected to the electrodes. If the reward that you as a client are being exposed to in sessions is visual for example while watching a video, the screen when lighten up when your brainwave frequencies are in the range needed to improve symptoms.

Effective neurofeedback training typically takes anywhere from 15 to 35 sessions. Unlike virtually all other treatment methods available, neurofeedback has no known significant side effects. However, not all people are appropriate candidates for neurofeedback treatment. Anyone who wants to pursue the process of neurofeedback will have an initial therapeutic assessment to determine if neurofeedback can be a helpful path to pursue.

Final Assessment

Our #1 priority is seeing our patients improve. At the end of the program, we perform one final assessment, providing a complete picture of your progress from beginning to end. Most patients experience:

  • Improved quality of sleep
  • Improved focus and attention
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved mood
  • Improved recovery (faster muscle and mental recovery)
  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Reduced frequency and intensity of headaches/migraines
