Therapy for Children and Adolescents

No matter the age, we specialize in helping create a safe space for feelings and issues to be dealt with.

Why Choose Therapy for your Child or Adolescent?

Children and adolescents of this generation face things no previous generation has ever faced.  Many times, they express what they feel or think. It often takes professional training to find out what is really troubling a child or teen.  Let Crossroads Counselors do what they do best. Let them help your child or teen find emotional peace. Like adults, children and adolescents face difficult periods of their life. Circumstances and situations they did not choose force them into emotional arenas they cannot handle.  Let us work with your child to train them how to cope.

Children and Teenagers struggling with the following difficulties would benefit from Child/Adolescent Therapy:

  • Depression
  • Loss and Grief
  • Struggle with Friendships
  • School Problems (Grade Detriment, Issues Getting Along with Teachers)
  • Parenting Struggles
  • Conflicts with Siblings or Peers
  • Lack of Kindness
  • Trouble Making Decisions
  • Divorce
  • Social Pressures
  • Emotional Changes
  • Anxiety

Our Child and Adolescent Therapists

Why are Therapists Helpful?

Unfortunately, through no fault of their own, adults can have a hard time relating.  Adult underestimating (or never fully understanding) such painful issues can leave lasting wounds. These wounds can lead to greater, more painful issues later in life. Small children benefit from knowing that counselors are not as hurt by their struggle as parents and guardians. Adolescents often retreat from parents and may find benefit from the confidential nature of having an adult who they can confide.  They know a therapist can help them work through the many issues they may face. We want to help make families whole again after outside traumas confound children.

Our Goal at Crossroads

At Crossroads Counseling, we have several therapists on staff who have experience working with all ages as well as with the parents or guardians.  Our goal is always to insure their children's mental state stays healthy. Whatever the emotional burden, stress, or anxiety your child is facing, our therapists listen to all problems and work with your child to cope and overcome the hurdles in their lives.  Crossroads Counseling is the road to a healthy, happy life for all children and their families.

What is a Session like with Our Therapists?

Our team can put a stop to the cycle.  Children can benefit from different forms of therapy to help cope with situations they may not understand.  Let our therapists guide your child through the trauma that no child should face. Whether it is a small child or a teen, let a caring therapist counsel your child to better mental health and well-being. Our therapists specialize in Play Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).

  • What is Play Therapy? :

Play therapy is a form of therapy where children feel able to express themselves more easily. When children are experiencing Play Therapy, they are experiencing a non-judgmental aid in expressing their thoughts and feelings. Children are able to develop skills, self discover, move past difficulties in their lives, and so much more through Play Therapy.

  • What is Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)? :

PCIT is an evidence-based form of therapy which benefits children with behavioral issues. This form of therapy takes place in sessions where you and your child are in a playroom and the therapist is observing. The therapist will watch you and your child interact, while coaching you on skills to manage your child’s behavior.

  • What is Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)? :

DDP is a parenting approach on therapy that uses what we know about developmental trauma to help children and families create healthier relationships. This form of therapy helps teach the child to trust and is family based.
